NSI, which is Denmark’s largest producer of sand and gravel, is using the stacker at its gravel pit in Roskilde, close to the capital city of Copenhagen.

The enormous Telestack TS 842 works in conjunction with a mobile crushing plant, a set that is producing road base material for a large number of infrastructure projects in Copenhagen, which is growing rapidly. The telescopic Telestack TS 842 has been working for many years all over the world including Scandinavia but the NSI unit is a first for Denmark.

NSI’s Roskilde gravel pit is the oldest and largest in Denmark and their willingness to embrace new technology and new methods to process and handle their materials means they can utilise the impressive Telestack telescopic conveyor and take advantage of the significant advantages of lower operating costs, better environmental performance and improved site safety.

The TS 842 purchased by NSI is well equipped. It is installed with a sophisticated PLC system where the operator can select the number of degrees the conveyor should travel radially. By swivelling radially from side to side in a radius of 270 degrees the customer can now produce 60,000m³ which equals approximately 97,000tonnes of road base material before the operator needs to move the crusher and the Telestack TS 842. The conveyor can extend from 26m to 42m. The stockpiles can be up to 12m high and the capacity up to 800tonnes/hour.

There are many options available with Telestack stackers so they suit each individual application. These include integrated generator and crawler tracks for a fully independent unit that is easy and safe to move around the site. The radio remote control also makes for smoother operations. There are also important options available for environmental dust suppression, such as galvanised or canvas dust covers, telescopic dust covers, dust extraction, rubber ‘sock’ chutes, water suppression and many more.

The radial telescopic stacker is one of the most cost-efficient and effective ways of stockpiling material on the market. The reduction of segregation, degradation, contamination and compaction when stockpiling ensures ‘in specification’ material for any application. The radial telescopic stackers cater for a complete range of applications and industries. They offer 30% more stockpile capacity on the same footprint when stockpiling in a trapezoidal shape compared to using standard stackers.

Although the TS 842 is the largest in Denmark, larger models (and smaller) are available with fully extended lengths of up to 58m and loading rates of up to 3,000tonnes/hour. Other key benefits are that the mobile radial telescopic stackers eliminate the need for wheeled loaders to build stockpiles therefore reducing labour and maintenance costs, and with less site traffic movements the potential for human error is reduced. They can be fully automated, reducing labour, and the stacker reduces the double handling of material.
